My First blog EVER!!!!!!

Updated: May 1, 2020

Here is my first blog lesson. I hope you like it and my video. Which is silly. So it makes sense that it is in my blog.

So after viewing that award winning video let's get started.

A portrait is a picture of some one. One of the most famous portraits is the picture above, Mona Lisa by Leonardo DaVinci, painted in c.1503. That painting 517 years old! Mona Lisa is known all around the world for her beautiful mysterious smile, her missing eyebrows and the way her eyes follow you. The way DaVinci blended the paint colors makes the portrait realistic and peaceful.

Rembrant van Rijn made many self portraits (painting/drawings of himself). This self portrait is drawing he drew when he was a young man. Look how surprised he looks, with his eyes wide open. He looks so different than the calm and peaceful Mona Lisa. This drawing is almost like a cartoon with all the scribbles and organic lines.

This portrait painting is called Girl with a Pearl Earring, by Johannes Vermeer painted in 1665. Like Rembrandt's drawing, she is painted in a moment, she looks over her shoulder, her eyes wide and lips parted as if about to speak. Her expression and the mystery of her identity has led some to compare her to Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Vermeer blended his colors together but look how his blending of colors looks different than in the Mona Lisa.

Which portrait do you like best?

So let's draw a portrait. You can try to draw someone you know or a portrait from your imagination. Most portraits of people all have one thing in common, they have a face with eyes, nose, mouth.

I always start with the shape of the head and then I make two light lines that divide the face into 4 areas. Head shapes are oval not a circle. Remember to draw lightly so it is easy to erase.

Now lets add some facial features, like eyes, nose and mouth. The lines you put in should be light and simple Next we put in hair and more detail

Finally, add details and shadows, lightly and build up your portrait.

Hey, look it's the bearded kid form my class. Now remember , yours is going to look like your style of drawing. Our styles are all different, just like people, we are all different but wonderful. I hope you liked this lesson/blog and if you can send me a picture of the portrait that you drew. I would love to see your work!!! Thanks, and I miss you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
